Cobb teens arrested for slashing inflatable decorations
Suspects tell police they were ‘grinching’ in city councilman’s yard
Four teenagers were arrested by Marietta police for “grinching” — allegedly using a machete to destroy some of the inflatables.
Marietta police caught the group of teens running from the home shortly before 3 a.m., before they could destroy much of Pearlberg’s display at the corner of Church and Sessions streets.
Pearlberg, also a Cobb County deputy assistant district attorney, said fathers of two of the four teens arrested called later and apologized. His concern is that the teenagers were armed with knives and a machete.
Pearlberg doesn’t plan to stop his holiday show, although he has lost about half of his collection this year. Two weeks ago, someone knocked down and damaged three or four of the inflatables.
“People are calling me and telling me not to let this get me down,” he said. “If this brings a smile to someone’s face, then I am not going to stop.”
Mark Hirons of Marietta, William Albritton of Woodstock, Kemp Robertson of Marietta, all 17, and a 16-year-old juvenile whose name was not released because of his age, were arrested after a foot chase along several neighborhood streets, police said.
They are charged with loitering/prowling and obstruction. Robertson was also charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and the juvenile was charged with a curfew violation.
