Kanick, John F. III BINGHAMTON, N.Y. John F. Kanick III, 61, passed away on April 12, 2009, at Weill-Cornell Hospital in New York City after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. John is survived by his mother, Marjorie L. Kanick of Binghamton, N.Y.; one son, Todd Kanick and his wife Amanda of Endicott; his granddaughter, McKenzie; and his daughter, Jessica Kanick of Binghamton. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon and husband Emil Schappert of Stroudsburg, Pa.; brother, Thomas and wife Janet Kanick of Chenango Bridge, N.Y.; and by his sister, Laurie and her husband Timothy Jacobson of Niskayuna, N.Y. Nieces and nephews include David Schappert of Stroudsburg, Pa., Sara and Doug Ferguson of Stroudsburg, Pa., Michael and Elizabeth Kanick of Arlington, Virginia, and Ryan and Lauren Kanick of Binghamton, N.Y. He is also survived by great-nieces, Cate and Sophia Ferguson, and great-nephew, Gabriel Ferguson, and by many devoted friends and acquaintances. He is also survived by his longtime companion and soul mate, Debra Launt, and her sons, Brandon, Joshua (Ami) and grandchildren, Jonah, and Dinah. John graduated from Binghamton North High School and Broome Community College. He also served in the United States Air Force. John was an insurance broker, employed for many years by Liberty Mutual, and later, president of Hahn Insurance, Inc. John's innate love of music led him to become a part-time DJ at WAAL in Binghamton, N.Y. during the 80s. All who knew him will miss John's special sense of humor, as well as his compassion. He touched many lives, and made a difference in the world during his stay with us. John's energy and intelligence shone brightly, and he had the ability to make each person that he encountered feel special. Visitation followed by a memorial service will be held at Chase Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Binghamton, N.Y. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Those wishing may make a contribution in John's memory to SPEAK Animal Hospital, 351 Flint Road, Binghamton, NY 13905.
