Mary Irene (Mulrooney) Smith, 91, of Binghamton, died Sunday morning, May 10, 2009, at her home. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Smith; her brothers, Joseph and John Mulrooney; and daughter-in-law, Anne Smith. She is survived by her children, Linda and Paul Skojec, Vestal, Gerald Smith, France, Diane and Robert Robusto, Schenectady, Robert and Christina Smith, Binghamton; ten grandchildren, W. Mark and Donna Ciaravino, Daniel and Susan Ciaravino, Michael Smith, Glenn Smith, Michael and Eileen Robusto, Maureen Robusto, Erin and Andrew Griffin, Heather Smith, Timothy Smith and Erin Faughnan, Kyle and Danielle Smith; six wonderful great-grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton, the Altar Rosary Society and Over 50 Club; member of the St. John Vianney Club and a volunteer at Lourdes Hospital. Irene was a graduate of St. Patrick's Academy, Class of 1935, and retired from Broome County Department of Social Services. Over the years, she volunteered her time with many charitable organizations. The family wishes to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Fairview Home and Lourdes Hospice for the care given to Irene.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Irene may be made to Seton Catholic Central High School Boosters Club, 70 Seminary Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13905.
