Elizabeth M. Long
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Puff Long, 89, a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Born March 27, 1920, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Clarence A. and Adelia Wigg Puff.
She is survived by two sons, G. Winston Long Jr. of Poughkeepsie and David C. Long and his wife, Bonnie Varney Long, of Dover; and a granddaughter, Vanessa G. Long of Kittery, Maine.
Betty was employed as a nurse/teacher for many years for the City of Poughkeepsie School District before retiring in 1982. Betty received a bachelor of arts degree from Vassar College, a masters of science degree from Russell Sage College, and graduated from the Vassar Brothers Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse, where she later taught nursing.
She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie.
WE REMEMBER: She was a member of the Vassar College Alumnae Association, Poughkeepsie area Vassar Club, Dutchess County Retired Teachers Association, State and National Retired Teachers Association, former member of City of Poughkeepsie Narcotics Guidance Council, former member of the American Association of University Women, and served as a U.S. Army Corps. Cadet Nurse during World War II at Rhodes Army Hospital in Utica, N.Y.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Parmele-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced at Christ Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie. Burial will take place in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Lawrence "Larry" Plover

Lawrence "Larry" Plover, 65, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, formerly of Staten Island, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at his home.
Born April 23, 1943 in Staten Island, he was the son of Vincent F. and Regina Cullen Plover. In August 1980, in Stony Brook, Long Island, he married Toni Saychek.
He was the loving husband of Toni Saychek, who survives him at home in Poughkeepsie; devoted son of Vincent F. Plover, who survives in Poughkeepsie; loving father of three children, Sean, Colin and Carrie Plover, who all survive at home in Poughkeepsie. He was a loving and cherished brother of five: Jeanne Plover MD of Providence, RI, Lorraine MacPherson of Pleasant Valley, Vincent Plover of Staten Island, and Mary Plover Smith of Pine Plains. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Kearney and his mother, Regina Cullen Plover.
Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m., today, Friday, March 20, at Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 218 Mill St., Poughkeepsie. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of funeral home on Vassar St.
A Ceremony of Remembrance will be 10 a.m., Saturday, March 21, at the New Hackensack Reformed Church, Rt. 376, Wappingers Falls. Burial will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

Diana J. Nelson Krakower, a longtime resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY,
entered into rest on February 19, 2009 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center. She was
68.
The daughter of George Nelson and Florence Janson, she was born July
4, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY. She married Dr. Leon Krakower in New York City on
January 16, 1994.
A C.S.W. for the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in
Poughkeepsie until her retirement in 1994, Diana was also a member of the
National Association of Social Workers. She graduated from St. Angela Hall
Academy in Brooklyn; Hofstra University on Long Island, and received her
Master's from SUNY Albany.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Krawoker,
at home; one sister, Janis Nelson of Albany, NY; three stepchildren: Stephan
Krakower and his wife Sharyn of Poughkeepsie, Eric Krakower of Poughkeepsie, and
Karin Albenda and her husband, Peter of Poughkeepsie, and several
cousins.
A Memorial Gathering will be held today, Sunday, February 22,
from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 220 Mill
St., Poughkeepsie, NY. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of the funeral
home on Vassar Street. Burial will be private.
