Harold J. DeThorne, Sr., 72, of Schenectady, died Tuesday, at Northwoods in
Troy, NY, after a short illness. Born in Albany, he was the son of Harold James
and Mae (Dwyer) DeThorne. He was employed for many years as an oiler for Local
106 for Operating Engineers. Harold was predeceased by his wife, Catherine
(Richeson) DeThorne, whom he married February 8, 1958; and one brother, George
DeThorne. He is survived by one son, Harold J. DeThorne, Jr. (Sandra) of Clifton
Park; three daughters, Liza Esperti of Scotia, Mary Barletta (Daniel) of
Charlton and Kathie Lenge (Robert) of Schenectady; two sisters, Frances VanZandt
of Colonie and Carol Ann Leccese of Rochester; also survived by seven
grandchildren, Eric Lenge, Kevin Esperti, Amanda Barletta, Shawn Esperti,
Michael Barletta, Matthew Esperti and Harrison DeThorne. A memorial service will
beheld at the convenience of the family. Harold's family would like to thank the
nursing staff at Northwoods for making his final day happy. In lieu of flowers,

Donald H. Crandall, 46, of Schenectady, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July
31, 2009, while attending a Yankee game in Chicago with family and friends. Born
in Schenectady on December 8, 1962, he was the son of Patricia (nee: LaDeaux)
and the late Ronald H. Crandall. He was raised and educated in Schenectady and a
graduate of Linton High School. He was a faithful member of Bethel Full Gospel
Church in Schenectady. He was employed for 16 years as a lieutenant at the
Schenectady County Sheriff's Department. Don was a member of Wegener's
Granulomatosis Association, and a supporter of Montgomery County SPCA. He was an
enthusiastic Yankee fan and will be remembered for his kind heart and joyous
personality. He was patient and positive who never had a bad word to say. He
loved animals and loved his family and grandson in his own special way. Married
on June 5, 1999, Don is survived by his wife, Debi (nee: Kull) Crandall.
Survivors also include his children, Anthony (Matt Boyd) CeFala of NYC and
Vinnie Iadicicco, Jr. of Schenectady; his twin brother, David Crandall of
Rotterdam; and two brothers, Ronnie and Shawn Crandall, both of Schenectady; his
grandson, Xander Iadicicco of Schenectady; his church family including Pastor
and Mrs. Steve Foti; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends,
including Joey Capra; and many special pet companions. A memorial celebration
will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Bethel Full Gospel Church, 3669
Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in his

Costanzo J. Battista, 99, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Born in Schenectady on August 28, 1909, he was the son of the late Antonio and Lucia Incoronata (nee: De Simone) Battista. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. He was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady. He was employed by General Electric Co. in Schenectady as a mechanical designer for many years until his retirement in 1974. Costanzo was a member of General Electric's Quarter Century Club and a former member of Schenectady Symphony Orchestra. He was an accomplished musician, composer and instructor, playing the violin, classical guitar and mandolin. He was an outdoor enthusiast and particularly enjoyed fly-fishing. Married on September 24, 1938, he was predeceased on February 11, 2006 by his wife of 65 years, Carmella Virginia (nee: Mauriello) Battista. He is also predeceased by his daughter, Diana Blanchard. Survivors include his son, Richard (Gail) Battista of Guilderland; seven grandchildren, Gina (Frank) Murray, Tony Battista, Jennifer (Dave) Szpila, Angel Charles, Steven Battista, Lisa (Tony) Brown and Christopher Blanchard; six great-grandchildren, Krista, Kayla, Carmella, Chelsea, Lucy and Natalie; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caring staff, doctors, and many caregivers of Eddy Senior Care and the PACE Program, especially, Mark, Amanda, Gay, Kelly and Dr.Barkowski, all of whom made it possible for Costanzo to live comfortably at home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. to be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St., Schenectady. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home with a Legacy Candle Ceremony to be held at 7:30 p.m. that will feature a musical piece written by Costanzo.
