Leonard S. Dubow, 88, lifelong resident of Skokie. Partner in Simon, Dubow, Breyer & Company, Accountants. Past President and an honored Member of Skokie Valley Kiwanis for over 50 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Arline, nee Cohn, for 63 years; devoted father of Jeffrey (Deborah) Dubow, Debra Dubow(Tom Lyons) and Andrea Weinstein; loving grandfather of Jeremy Dubow (Farrah Zick), Dr. Jordan (Dr Stephanie) Dubow, Dylan Lyons, Brianna and Brooke Weinstein; dear brother of the late Helen Gardner and

Doris Deane Marquez          

May 12, 1923 - April 9, 2009

A memorial gathering will be held for Doris Deane Marquez, 85, of Coos Bay, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Ocean Ridge Retirement and Assisted Living Community, 1855 Ocean Blvd. in Coos Bay with the Rev. Karl Schray, of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, officiating. Cremation rites will be held at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematory in Coos Bay under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel. Inurnment will be held in Lafayette, Ind.

Doris was born May 12, 1923, in Lafayette the daughter of William and Okie Belle (Beers) Gardner. She died April 9, 2009, in Coos Bay.

She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the rank of first class seaman V-10, being honorably discharged in 1944. Doris married Emiliano "Benny" Marquez Aug. 31, 1963, in Los Angeles, Calif., and moved to Ocean Ridge in 2006 from Beaverton. She was a volunteer much of her life most recently with the Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary. Doris raised and showed lasa aphsos dogs with her best friend, Linda Allen, collected movie classics and loved her God, family and special dog, Drea.

Doris is survived by her husband, Benny Marquez of Coos Bay; two children, William David Johnson of Georgia and Joseph Johnson and his wife, Vickie of Beaverton; seven grandchildren, James Johnson and his wife, Jennifer of San Diego, Calif., Deborah Harding of Medford, Connie Johnson of Coos Bay, Karlee Crowley and Bethany Crowley both of Beaverton, Steven Crowley of Hillsboro and Richard Crowley of Beaverton; adopted daughter, Barbara Bates of Coos Bay; and special friends, Linda Allen of Coos Bay and Jackie Burns of California.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Coos County Animal Shelter, 600 Southport Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420.

Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 267-3131.

LUCAS, Dr. Jack A. Dr. Jack A. Lucas, 84, of West Hartford, died at Hartford Hospital on Monday (March 16, 2009). He was born to Margaret and Eugen Hans Lukacs, in Nebersdorf, Austria, on March 2, 1925. The family emigrated to the U.S. in 1939. Jack served in the Seabees in World War II. He attended the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin, and received his doctorate in Anthropology from Columbia University, studying under Margaret Meade, among others. He taught Anthropology at CCSU for many years. A lifelong peace activist, he supported many organizations, and was an active member of the Hartford-Ocotal Sister City Project, among others. He was the long-time president of the Austrian Singing Society, Donau, in New Britain, and sang in the Farmington Valley Chorale. He is survived by his wife Ruth; his children, Shirley and Bruce Lucas of West Hartford; Gabrielle Lucas and her husband, Edmund Boys of Greenville, SC; Paul Lucas and his wife, Tashya of Beaverton, OR; by his brother, Dr. Alexander Lucas of Rochester, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Fonken; and his brother, Ernst Lucas. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to CCSU or the charity of one's choice. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford, has care of arrangements.
