Larry Wayne Napier Sr., 61, of Charlottesville died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at his residence.
He was born May 23, 1947, in Charlottesville, the son of Mary Shepard Napier and the late John G. Napier. He was also preceded in death by his foster father, John Gentry; and two brothers, John S. Napier Sr. and Randall F. Napier.
Larry was a crane operator for Coiners Scrap Metal for 35 years and was a member of the Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club.
Surviving him are his wife, Sharon Napier of Charlottes-ville; four sons, Larry W. Napier Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, of Troy, Anthony L. Napier and his wife, Angela, of Esmont, Thomas A. Napier and his companion, Christi, of Waynesboro, and Donald L. Napier and his wife, Debbie, of Esmont; nine grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Amber, Anthony Jr., Kristina, Logan, Holden, Seth, and Dakota; one great-grandchild, Cohen; three sisters, Brenda Baker and her husband, Lee, of Merlino, Florida, Patricia Sacre of Charlottesville, and Sherry Wilford and her husband, Keith, of Merlino, Florida; a brother, Guy Napier of Charlottesville; a half-sister, Mildred Bennett of Charlottesville; his foster mother, Elsie Gentry of Columbia; a cousin, Carolyn Shifflett of Charlottesville; nieces; nephews; and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Reverend Hardy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Gentry family cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Larry's name be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Way, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
