Brannstrom, Sonja L., passed away peacefully on August 28, surrounded by
her family at her home in Anaheim. She leaves husband Harry Brannstrom, children
Anita Leto of San Diego, Christian Brannstrom of College Station, TX, Camilla
Brannstrom of Los Angeles, sister Astrid Sgarbieri of Campinas, Brazil, nephew
Ricardo Sgarbieri of Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, and four grandchildren, Michael and
Grace Leto and Nicolas and Andreas Brannstrom. Sonja was born on 13 August 1935
of European parents living in Brazil. She graduated from high school and
university in Piracicaba and São Paulo, Brazil, respectively, then studied in a
São Paulo music conservatory, becoming a licensed music teacher at age 21. When
her fiancée, Harry, a Swedish engineer, was transferred by his steel company to
Los Angeles, CA, Sonja followed her heart and Harry to the US, where they
married in 1957. Moving back to Brazil in 1958, Harry was later invited for
studies in Sweden, for a four-month stay, also with Sonja, when they also
traveled all though Europe. Back in Brazil, the first daughter, Anita, was born,
in 1964 and then two years later the couple and child moved to the US, settling
in Anaheim, where Christian and Camilla were born a few years later. With
dedication and loyalty, Sonja worked at a restaurant chain, making friends among
customers, management, and co-workers. She enjoyed her time off with playing
music and Harry singing to her accompaniment. They also enjoyed traveling
together, on even years to Sweden and odd years to Brazil. She will be greatly
missed by all of us. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday,
September 4, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Anaheim. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in Sonja's memory may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
