Margery Joan Burton 1924 - 2008
Margery Joan Burton passed away in Poway, CA, on August 9, 2008. She resided in
Bakersfield, CA for over 50 years and was married for 58 years to William (Bill)
B. Burton, who passed away on February 16, 2008. She was the loving mother of 3
sons: Roger of Sanger, CA, Douglas and Bill, Jr. of San Diego, CA; four
grandchildren, Brittany, Davis, Chelsea and Brice. Margery (Marge) was born and
raised in Los Angeles, CA, and graduated from University of USC with a B.A. in
Education. She served as a teacher and reading specialist at various Bakersfield
City and Arvin Union District schools, teaching kindergarten through 2nd grade
classes. She had many hobbies, among them reading, painting, dancing, music,
cooking, gardening, traveling. She was a former President of the Bakersfield
P.E.O., served as a docent at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, and was a member of
the Heritage Bible Church. A celebration of life will take place at Fort
Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, where her husband is interred, on
September 4th, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in
Margery and Bill's memory for a Bakersfield City School District music
scholarship to: Kern County Music Educators Association, c/o Mike Stone, 1300
