Bernice O. Neely A resident of Burlingame for 34 years, died Sat., June 7, 2008, at the age of 89. Miss Neely was born in Moscow, ID, the second of nine children, to Anna I. (Dunn) and Albert E. Neely. She attended the Ursuline Academy in Moscow and continued her education at Washington State University. In 1942 she moved to San Francisco where she became one of 12 civilian women employed in the headquarters of the United States Marine Corps Corp as director of Officers Detail. She continued her career as executive secretary in the private sector until her retirement in 1989. Ms. Neely, an avid golfer and ardent Giants fan, was blessed with numerous friends of all ages. She truly enjoyed being called "a National Treasure" by friends at her local bank. All considered her to be a woman of great dignity, personal charm, wit and wisdom. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Hoffman and Mary Ellen Schools; two brothers, John F. Neely and Robert D. Neely. She is survived by her brothers, Donald J. Neely (Yen Binh) of Daly City, and Gerald B. Neely (Vicki) of Coeur d' Alene, ID; two sisters, Patricia Lynch of Port Orange, FL, and Shirley Jane Brueggeman (Gary) of Yakima, WA. She also had 96 nieces and nephews including special niece, Theresa Fross (Lindsey) of San Rafael and her very dear niece, Christine Foley of Foster City who accompanied her on her many travels and oversaw her needs. She had many grand nieces and nephews, including Kathleen Foley of Livermore, CA, and many cousins including Russell and Will (Marilyn) and Molly Honsowetz of Alamo. Memorial Mass will be offered on Sat., June 21, 12pm at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 1310 Bayswater, Burlingame, CA. Memorial Mass will also be offered on August 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moscow, ID, by her nephew Fr. Brad Neely. Ceremony to follow at the Moscow Cemetery, and a celebration of her life during the Neely annual family picnic. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Healing Journeys, PO Box 22147, Sacramento, CA, or St Mary's School, 412 N Monroe, Moscow, ID 83843.
