Gloria Mary Marciniak We celebrate the life of Gloria Mary Marciniak, a
woman who led a private but exemplary life. Gloria lived her 86 years
in California. She was born to William Kendal Hathorn and Floy
Rasmessen Hathorn, in Santa Cruz, on February 10, 1922, and died
peacefully, in Napa, on September 15, 2008. She grew up in the Bay Area
and graduated from Mercy High School, Burlingame, in 1940. Three years
later she earned a diploma in nursing from St. Mary's Hospital in San
Francisco. There she made and kept many life-long friends, especially
Marie Williamson. Gloria's excellent nursing knowledge served her
community, her family and herself all of her days. Gloria loved to
dance. It was at a local dance that she met Roman Marciniak. They were
married August 30, 1946 at St. Matthew Catholic Church and honeymooned
in Santa Barbara. They were blessed with two children, Lou Ann and
Paul, who both continue to live by the high standards their hardworking
parents set. Gloria was always a devoted Catholic, active in the Altar
Society and longtime member of Our Lady of Angels Church. She was fun
loving and kind, an avid Bingo player and day-traveler. She loved
flowers and live entertainment but seemed happiest enjoying nature and
her garden. She was generous with her time, no matter if dealing with
relatives, strangers or friends. She kept her positive attitude and
sense of humor till the end, never complaining and always thankful.
Truly, Gloria's passing will leave a large hole in the lives of the
people who knew her. We are comforted by our belief that she is in a
much better place, surrounded by loved ones, who have gone before her.
You are invited to attend her Funeral Mass that will be celebrated
10:30 Friday morning, September 26. A reception will follow in the
Parish Hall, both at OLA Church 1721 Hillside Dr. in Burlingame.
