Cupertino Citywide Emergency Drill Print E-mail
It's been twenty years since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. To
prepare for the "bigger" one, the City of Cupertino will be
conducting a citywide emergency drill on Oct 17, 18. The purpose of the
drill is for city's emergency volunteers to evaluate their ability to
document and keep track of events they're handling on a global
scale. Just like a real earthquake, volunteers will make contact with
the 21,000 Cupertino households to simulate a citywide safety
assessment.

Cupertino's Office of Emergency Services (OES) will activate all
volunteers from the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Cupertino
Amateur Radio Emergency Service (CARES), and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)
during this two day - 16 hour – exercise. Other community
organizations such as Block Leaders, Boy & Girl Scouts, Interact, and
Octagon club are invited to help OES volunteers accomplish their goals
by reaching every house in only 16 hours.

In addition, all six of the City's Emergency Information and
Resource sites (commonly called ARKs) will be opened. The public is
welcome to visit their local ARK from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October
17 and from Noon to 6:00 p.m on October 18 so they can become familiar
with the locations, functions and capabilities. The ARKs will also
accept walk up volunteers to help reach all the homes in time.

ARK locations are:
Monta Vista Fire Station Stevens Creek @ Prado Vista (Park in the
Church parking lot)
Garden Gate Elementary School Greenleaf @ Ann Arbor (Near baseball
field)
Lawson Middle School Vista Dr. @ Merritt (Near basketball courts)
De Anza College Stelling Rd. @ Pepper Tree Ln. (Behind baseball
stands)
Hyde Middle School Hyde Ave @ Bollinger Rd (Near the track )
Seven Springs Seven Springs @ Stelling Rd. (Near the clubhouse)
