Dick Lohmiller A 42-year resident of Cupertino, CA, Richard Grant Lohmiller died July 29, 2009 at the age of 71. Richard "Dick" is survived by his loving wife Katherine, "Kay" of 42 years, his daughter Kristina and husband Ron Ernst, his son Kurt and wife Selena, three grandchildren Ryan, Kayla, and Tyler Ernst, and sister Ann and brother in law Roy Gillette. Born on July 2, 1938 in San Francisco, CA to Herbert and Maxine Lohmiller, Dick attended Lincoln High School and City College in San Francisco. He served 6 years as a Cryptographer in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Married in 1966 to Kay, they purchased their first home and settled in Cupertino in 1967. Dick worked as a manager in manufacturing and technology in many start up companies for over 30 years. Dick was active for 17 years in AYSO Soccer as a coach, referee and Commissioner. He served on Cupertino's Park & Recreation Commission for 8 years, was a member of the Cupertino Community Services Board of Directors, and Coordinator of the City of Cupertino Below Market Rate Housing Program. Dick was the Project Director for the Vista Village complex where West Valley Community Services is centered to provide low-income housing and services in the community. In 1990 he became a member of the Rotary Club of Cupertino. He chaired the community festival, Oktoberfest, co-chaired the annual Crab Feed for 14 years, and served as the club President in 1996-1997. Dick became involved with Rotary International's humanitarian projects traveling to Turkey and Chile to install heart monitors in hospitals, in Ghana he helped administer polio immunizations and supplied kidney dialysis machines, and in Mexico many wheelchairs were provided to children and adults. Dick served as the Rotary District 5170 Governor in 2007-2008 and has been honored with countless awards for meritorious service. His infectious laugh will be missed by all of his loving family and friends.
