Obituary: Ramona Soto Print E-mail
Ramona Soto Arredondo March 23, 1933-June 17, 2008 Ramona Soto Arredondo died at her home in Cupertino under the care of her family. Ramona will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Born in Hollister, California, Ramona was the daughter of Benito and Maria Soto. She was the baby of the family, with two older sisters, Argentina and Angelina. Ramona and her sisters shared a close bond throughout life, calling each other on the phone frequently and visiting each other whenever possible. The family spent three years in Asturias, Spain before settling permanently in San Jose. Ramona spent her life in the "Valley of Hearts Delight". Ramona graduated from San Jose High School, and The Santa Clara County School of Nursing, where she was her class valedictorian. She also attended University of San Francisco and San Jose State. Ramona retired from O'Connor Hospital after 40 years of Nursing in their Neonatal unit. Her expertise and loving nature helped hundreds of babies and their families. Ramona loved caring for these babies, giving them the opportunity to start life on the right footing. Ramona went into the nursery on each of the days her grandchildren were born, caring for them from day one and imprinting her compassion on them. Ramona and her husband Bernard had four children Anthony, Bernadette, Donna, and Steven. Ramona gave all of her children many gifts in life but the most precious are a sense of humor, quick laugh and the ability to see the best in everyone. Ramona was preceded in death by her husband Bernard, her son Anthony, and her sisters, Argentina Marino and Angelina Riordan. She is survived by her daughter Bernadette Ryan and son-in-law Bill, daughter Donna Arredondo and her partner Ben King, and son Steven Arredondo and his partner Pamela Hendricks and beloved grandchildren Elena, Julia and Anthony Ryan. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28th at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Cupertino, reception following in the community center. Donations (in lieu of flowers) in Ramona's memory may be made to: Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research Center CPMC Foundation, P.O. Box 45902, San Francisco, CA 94145-0902.
