Obituary: Sid Agarwal PDF Print E-mail
sid_agarwal.jpgBorn in India on Dec 2, 1951, Sid Agrawal passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2008 at the age of 56.  Sid will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.  He will be remembered as an especially doting father and husband, a caring gentleman, a successful but humble entrepreneur, and a gem of a person. Sid grew up in a very modest family. He completed his undergraduate degree in engineering at IIT, Kanpur.  With borrowed money for airfare from a distant uncle, Sid came to the United States in 1975.  He graduated with a Masters in Engineering from the University of Southern Illinois and then earned an MBA from the University of Chicago.  He made great strides at companies like Bell Labs, Perkin Elmer, Adobe and Intel where he was responsible for starting Intel’s India operation. In the mid 1990s, he held a senior management position at Alliance Semiconductor and was instrumental in taking the company public. He continued his success with various other start-ups as a founder and CEO. At the time of his passing, he was CEO of SiPort in Santa Clara, California. Sid is survived by his wife, Asha and two sons, Ashish and Ankur. For Sid, family always came first, and this included a large extended family with many distant relatives living in India that he continued to support financially and as a mentor. Sid also had many varied interests.  He had a passion for art, and more recently developed an interest in photography. A world traveler, an avid reader and an intellectual, his views and ideas were always a source of inspiration to all.  Whatever Sid did, it was done with an elegance and style difficult to match, and yet his modesty was always evident. Sid left us too soon and under tragic circumstances. Neither his family nor his friends will ever forget the legacy of kindness, humility, and brilliance that he leaves behind. With great sadness, we say goodbye to Sid…a void that can never be filled. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 11 am at the Lima Family Milpitas Fremont Mortuary, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd in Fremont. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of “Ashish Agrawal (for Sid Agrawal Memorial Fund)”, 47000 Warm Springs Blvd, # 140, Fremont CA 94539 for continued support of the causes that Sid cherished.
