With an auto-versus-pedestrian collision rate that ranks among the state's highest for a city its size - including a top ranking in 2006 for walkers 65 and older - the city of Glendale has stepped up measures to combat the problem, officials said.
Those efforts include a recent $133,000 enforcement and education grant, said Glendale police Sgt. Dennis Smith.
Since October, police have written hundreds of tickets in about a dozen
speed-enforcement stings funded by the City Council and the grant,
provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
