SCIFRES, Virginia Godwin (91), of Glendale, died December 26, 2008. Virginia was
born in Los Angeles, attended school in Long Beach, and was employed by Godwin's
Dry Goods in Glendale. She volunteered at the Children's Hospital Thrift Store
in Hollywood, and was active at the Sparr Heights Senior Center in Montrose. She
was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Glendale. She is
preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Alvin Scifres; parents, George and
Leah Godwin; and brother, Ralph Godwin. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara
McDaniel and husband, Richard of La Crescenta; son, James Scifres and wife,
Paula of Summerfield, NC; grandchildren, Craig McDaniel of Glendale, Jennie
McShea and husband, Matt of Summerfield, NC, Robert Scifres, and Thomas Scifres
of Greensboro, NC; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Molly McShea of
Summerfield, NC. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational
Church, 2001 Canada Blvd., Glendale on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 11 a.m.

American Cancer Society.
