Fr. George T. Dennis, S.J. Resident of Los Gatos Father George Thomas Dennis,
S.J., 86, died on Sunday, March 8, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital, San Jose. He
had been a Jesuit for 68 years and a priest for 55. After his ordination to the
priesthood Fr. Dennis studied in Rome where he received his doctorate in
Byzantine Church History in 1960. Most of his teaching and scholarly work took
place at Catholic University in Washington D.C. He was on the faculty there from
1966 until he retired in 2000. Upon returning to California in 2001, Fr. Dennis
joined the faculty at Loyola Marymount University as an adjunct professor of
History. In 2005 health issues made it necessary for him to retire to Sacred
Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos where he continued his scholarly work in
Byzantine history until his death. Fr. Dennis' funeral Mass will take place at
Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos on Monday, March 15 at 10:00 AM.
Committal of his ashes will take place immediately following the Mass at Santa
Clara Mission Cemetery in Santa Clara. Donations in memory of Fr. George Dennis
can be made to the California Province of the Society of Jesus at P.O. Box 68,
Los Gatos, CA 95031. Arrangements by Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills, Los
