ELIZABETH MICKE SARINA JUL 29, 1936 - JUN 22, 2009 Elizabeth passed away
peacefully at Stanford Medical Center. "Bette" was born in Red Bluff, CA to
William Micke and Grace Riffel Micke. She lived her first nine years on her
fathers farm in Las Molinas, CA. At the age of 9, her family moved to Yreka,
where her father entered in to a partnership with his father-in-law Ike Riffel.
Elizabeth graduated from Yreka High School at the age of 16. She had just turned
17 when she attended Holy Names College in Oakland, CA where she graduated with
honors. She attended U.C. Berkeley and graduated with a Masters Degree. She
worked at U.C. Berkeley for several years and then as a claims authorizer for
the Social Security Dept. in San Francisco. On August 24, 1963 she married
Alfred Sarina and moved to Modesto. She worked for the Social Security office in
Modesto prior to raising her family, son Christopher Sarina and daughter Jeannie
Zimmerman. She enjoyed family time with son-in-law Curt Zimmerman and her three
grandchildren Sarina, Brett and Chase. Bette was an avid reader and enjoyed the
challenge of crossword puzzles. She enjoyed playing golf as a member of the Lady
Swingers of Manteca and traveling with friends until health reasons limited her
activity. Her interests in local and world history made her a perfect fit as a
Docent for the McHenry Museum. She was a member of the Stanislaus County Swiss
Club, and received the rite of initiation into The Equestrian Order of the Holy
Sepulcher. Bette was preceded in death by her father William Micke. She is
survived by her husband of 46 years, Al Sarina, son Christopher Sarina, daughter
Jeannie (Curt) Zimmerman, grandchildren Sarina, Brett, Chase Zimmerman, mother
Grace Micke of Yreka, brother Brian Micke of Perth, Australia, sisters Lorraine
Hayden of Springfield, OR, Eileen Johnson of Ashland, OR and Anne Robertson of
Eugene, OR. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29th from 4-7pm followed by
a rosary at 7pm at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, 419 Scenic Dr. Modesto. A mass
will be said at 10:00am. Tuesday, June 30th at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic
Church, 505 W Granger Ave. Modesto. Interment will be private. Donations may be
made in Memory of Bette to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O.
