HELEN J. DICKENS DEC 18, 1920 - SEPT 22, 2009 Helen Dickens passed away
peacefully on Sept. 22nd at Valley Comfort in Modesto, CA, at the age of 88.
Helen was born in Oakdale, CA to Romildo and Rose Paioni. she was raised in
Salida, CA, where her parents had a dairy farm. In 1938 she graduated from
Modesto High School and went on to graduate from Business College. She then
worked as a legal secretary. In 1945, Helen married Arnold Dickens. Together
they raised 2 sons, Tom and Jerry. They spent their life as a farming family.
She was a homemaker and often worked in the summers alongside her husband and
sons during harvest. She always enjoyed doing things with her family whether it
be fishing, camping, ball games, or any family activity. In later years as her
health declined, there were days she was still able to enjoy her family. Helen
was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Young Ladies Institute and
Stanislaus County Swiss Club. She was preceded in death by her parents and
brother Charles Paioni. Helen is survived by her husband of 64 years, Arnold
Dickens; children, Jerry Dickens (Kathy) of Knights Ferry, and Tom Dickens
(Sharlene) of Modesto. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, Amy Taylor (Jason),
Nicole Hixon (Jason), Joe Dickens (Amy), Matt Dickens (Jenna), Kenny Dickens
(Lindsay), and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Salas Brothers
Mortuary in Modesto on Sunday, Sept. 27th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be a
