PHILLIP GIBSON DEC 18, 1915 - APR 11, 2009 Phil Gibson, age 93, passed away on
April 11th after a short stay at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House. Born to
Phillip and Gray Gibson on December 18, 1915 in Greensboro, NC, he settled in
California in 1935, where he met the love of his life, Mary. The two were
married on March 19, 1937 and later settled in Napa, California, where they
raised their family. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary; daughter,
Marilyn Gibson of Modesto; son, Greg Gibson of Redding; and daughter, Judy Himes
of Modesto; grandchildren, Kathy Kilaghbian of La Canada, Steve Gibson of
Redding, Hailey Himes of Modesto, and Cory Himes of Modesto; as well as five
great-grandchildren. Phil served in the United States Army during World War II
and worked in civil service for thirty years at local military installations.
Later in life, he became a real estate agent. Phil was very active in the
American Legion as well as the 40/8. He was a member of both the Napa and
Modesto Posts and held offices at the local, state, and national levels. Phil
was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nature, traveling, and spending time with his
family. A gregarious man, he never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew
him. We appreciated his infectious smile, zest for life, and loving spirit. He
will be sorely missed, but his memory will be treasured. Funeral services will
be held at Franklin and Downs-Colonial Chapel at 12th and G St. on Friday, April
17th at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery.
