Francisco "Frank'' Garcia, aged 87, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008. He was born in Mexico and came to the United States at the age of five to settle in Newman, CA, where he was raised. As a young man, he bravely fought in World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy. The stories he told are priceless. He was an avid reader of the past. After the war, he married his beloved wife of 60 years, Lillian M. Garcia and settled in Modesto, CA where he raised his family. He wanted all of his children to be well educated and to become successful. He became very proud of all of them. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family. His genuine nature and friendliness will always be remembered by others. Frank retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 23 years. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He was also a past member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion. He loved his home and kept his yards just like a perfect park setting. He is survived by his wife, Lillian M. Garcia and four children: Victor A. Garcia, Carlo M. Garcia, Rebecca A. Beebe (James Beebe), and Lilly G. Bahr (David J. Bahr). He has nine grandchildren: Jacqueline Zapp, Gina Warren, Celia Garcia, Francisco Garcia, Alyssa Bahr, Kaleena Bahr, Monica Bahr, Christopher Beebe, and Matthew Beebe. He also has four great grand children and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Emilia Garcia, and his siblings Dolores Alonzo, Jessie Garcia, Mary Garcia and Rudy Garcia. He will remembered by all who loved and adored him and whose lives were blessed to be touched by this wonderful man. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 from 5:00 - 9:00 P.M., with Rosary, same evening at 6:00 P.M., at Franklin and Downs Colonial Chapel, located at 12th and G Streets. Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 1813 Oakdale Road, on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 9:30 A.M. with the burial to follow at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. www.modbee.com/obituaries
