Herbert Franklin Jenkins
HERBERT FRANKLIN JENKINS Born: DEC. 24, 1932 Macomb, Oklahoma Passed from this life: AUG. 22, 2008 Modesto, California Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend and mentor passed from this life peacefully after a short illness. Frank will be forever remembered for his jovial spirit, the twinkle in his eye and his dedication to family and friends. After working as a farm laborer from an early age, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge and return to California, he began his career as a bridge and building carpenter with the Southern Pacific Railroad, where he worked until a medical retirement after 28 years. That's when Frank began his true calling as a full time Popa''. Frank's selflessness and dedication to his children, grand- children and great-grandchildren can not be exaggerated. They were the focal point of his life, right up to his passing. He exemplified an husband's role by loving and caring for the love of his life during and through her illness until her untimely death in 1995. The word no'' did not exist in his vocabulary when a family member, friend or even casual acquaintance needed a hand, he was a rock that could be counted on. Webster says the definition of a gentleman is a courteous, gracious man with a strong sense of honor'' ~ one of Frank's long term neighbors Kathryn Seamon perhaps summed it up best when she said simply, he was a true gentleman''. Frank, Oak, Dad, Popa, your passing leaves a hole the size of the Grand Canyon in our lives. It has been said that time heals everything...this may take eternity. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Olgo Jenkins; father, Jesse Lee Jenkins; mother, Addie Margaret Jenkins; brother, Jack Jenkins; and sisters, Ila Mae Bryant and Dorma Lee Hogue.
