MARGUERITE ENGELHARDT JULY 20, 1925-SEPT 29, 2008 Our beautiful mother began the journey to her Heavenly Home on Monday, September 29th at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, CA. Marguerite Marie McCreight, was born on July 20, 1925 in Boseman, Montana to Marybelle and Richard McCreight. She attended grammer school and high school in San Jose, CA. Marguerite then went to work in San Francisco at Fort Mason for the War Department, decoding wartime correspondence. She met and married Charles William Engelhardt, a soldier in the U.S. Army and began her life as an Army wife. They traveled all over the world to many different duty stations, including Germany and Hawaii. In 1960, the Engelhardt Family moved to Modesto where Charles was stationed as the Commander of the reserve unit. Marguerite and Charles loved Modesto and decided to make it a permanent home. They joined the Newscomers Club and made many wonderful friends. Marguerite became very active in the Newscomer Club, holding many offices, including President. With all of her children in school, she decided to go to work part time at Dunlaps'' Department Store. It was there she began her life long love of the fashion industry, and an amazing career that spanned 40 years. At Dunlaps she worked her way up from part time sales clerk to merchandise manager of the store, traveling to New York five times a year on buying trips. In 1978, she went into business with her two daughters, Eve and Sue Ann, opening a womens clothing boutique called, Eve and Me''. She retired from Eve and Me'' in 2000 during a battle with cancer, but returned after her recovery to spend time in the store with her daughters and all the many friends she had made over the years. She also joined an art class for cancer survivors and began painting. When asked to write what the class had meant to her, she wrote Cris has given me a brand new world, crammed full of wonders of delight! Bursting brilliant colors, fighting on the page, to pale pastels that soothe the soul.'' Marguerite was an amazing women, full of light and love, she touched the lives of so many and will be missed by all. Marguerite is survived by her six children, Bill (Susan) Engelhardt of Oakdale, CA, Robin (Connie) Engelhardt of San Diego, CA, Eve Edwards of Modesto, Gary (Cathy) Engelhardt of Modesto, Sue Ann (Kenny) Wilhite of Modesto, and Richard (Rhonda) Engelhardt of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Rob (Poppy), Aaron, Noelle (Shayne) Kris, Jennifer Rose, Jennifer Jo, Jamie, Amanda, Lindsey, Cheyenne, Dylan, Kody, Austin (Evelyn) Drew, Mallory, Chelsea, Kelli and Travis; great-grand children, Will and George Austin, Payton and Logan, Lucas, Jayden and Jace, and Jessie, Jr. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, at the Enslen Park Club House, located on the corner of Enslen Avenue and Stoddard Avenue.
