Jim Fowler, 81, of El Centro passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012. He was born March 19, 1930 in Mountain View, Arkansas. He moved to California with his parents, Carl Van Buren and Nettie (Jessen) Fowler in 1943. Jim married his wife of 54 years, Norma Stapleton, June 27, 1950 and settled down in the Imperial Valley where they raised their two children. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Imperial.
Jim served in the United States Marines and after serving his country he began his career in the construction industry. In 1968, he started his family owned business "Jim Fowler Backhoe Service" retiring in 1995. After retirement he spent time with his loving wife and family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Jim was a loving husband, father, and "Papa" to his grandchildren.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Norma; mother, Nettie; father, Carl; and brother Bobby.
Jim is survived by his son, Carl (Cheryl) Fowler of El Centro; daughter, Cindy (Earl) Baker of Imperial; grandsons Christopher Imhof of San Diego, Joseph Baker of Imperial and Cody Fowler of El Centro; granddaughters Tiana, Shelby and Austyn Baker all of Imperial; and great-granddaughter Lilianna Imhof of San Diego. Jim is also survived by his sisters, Frieda Bennett, and Betty Fredericks from Texas and Marie (Terry) Barrett of El Centro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Jim to Alzheimer's Association and American Cancer Society .

Jake Donald Atchley, 87, of Silver City, died Tuesday evening at home. He was born to the late Thomas Jefferson Atchley and Maggie Bell Prince, August 24, 1923, in Colgate, OK. Jake Donald attended Dexter High School where he met the love of his life, Johnnie Pauline Wallace. Jake Donald and Johnnie were married on January 26, 1942. He received a degree of Graduate of Theology from Baptist Bible College on May 16th, 1957. Jake Donald was called into the army at the start of World War II but joined the Navy and served until February, 1946. After his tour of duty, Jake Donald returned to Dexter NM. Soon after Jake Donald and Johnnie moved to Texas and found employment in the oil fields of West Texas. His friend, who was a driller, kept inviting him to church. So finally, around 1:00 AM one morning, Jake Donald agreed and upon arriving home announced to Johnnie, "We are going to church." Jake Donald was so touched by the Word of God that he accepted Christ as his Savior, baptized and he surrendered his live to be a Pastor. Jake Donald and Johnnie served several years at Temple Baptist Church in Odessa. In 1953, Jake Donald packed up his family and moved to Springfield, MO, to attend Baptist Bible College. In Jake Donald's graduation year book, his professors and graduates named him "Everyone's Friend." Upon graduation Jake Donald packed up his family again and moved to Carlsbad, NM, where he started a Fundamental Independent Baptist church-Victory Baptist Church. He pastored there until 1966 and packed up the family moving to Odessa, TX, to start a new church-Tanglewood Baptist Church. He pastored there until 1972. From there Jake Donald moved to Silver City, NM, and pastored Bible Baptist Church for 13 years. In 1985, Jake Donald started a new Fundamental Independent Baptist Church in Silver City called Faith Baptist Church. In 2001, Pastor Jake Donald Atchley retired from pastoring due to health problems. Pastor Atchley loved the challenges of starting new works for the Lord. He always had a song in his heart and loved his family. Jake Donald is survived by his wife of 69 years, Johnnie. Jake Donald has 1 surviving brother-Derwood Atchley (Venice, spouse) of Mountain View, MO, and 1 sister-Lewene McVicker (Tommy, spouse) of Mountain View, MO. He is also survived by 5 children: Donna Sue Russell (John Russell, spouse) of Carlsbad, NM; Mitchell Atchley (Rhonda Atchley, spouse) of Cross Plains, TX; Larry Atchley (Carol Atchley, spouse) of Abilene, TX; Mary Jo Johns (Roy Johns, spouse) of Glendale, AZ; Phyllis Morales (Albert Morales, spouse) of Silver City, NM. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. Jake Donald was preceded in death his parents--Tom and Maggie Atchley; also two infant brothers and his sister-Alta Bales. Also he was preceded in death by two grandchildren-Shawna Snow Atchley Grill and Jody Don Britton. Reverend Don Atchley will Lie in State at Bright Funeral Home Chapel from 10:00 to 11:00 on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 with the Funeral Service following with Pastor Mike Caswell officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, "Traditional Services and Care for your family and friends," 210 W. Natividad "Nancy" Abate. Born June 24, 1920. Passed away peacefully at home in Mtn. View on Oct. 23, 2011, age 91 years. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to the late Antonio and Dimetria Delgado. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, William, son William Jr, grandson Willie, as well as several brothers and sisters. Nancy is survived by her two sons, James and daughter-in-law Jeanne, Dennis and partner Chad Lahaie, three grandchildren: Jeff, Jay (Hilda), and Jamie (Scott) and her great granddaughter Addyson. Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitations will begin on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 5 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7 P.M. at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino Real, Mtn. View. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Church, 582 Hope St., Mtn. View. Entombment following Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos.
