LEON A. RAYNAUD
1915-2008
Leon A. Raynaud, 93, a
long-time resident of Santa Maria, CA, and for the last six years of Ontario,
CA, passed away peacefully after a long illness with his wife by his side on
August 23, 2008 at the Community Extended Care Hospital of Montclair, CA.
Born on August 3, 1915 in San Jose, CA to French immigrant parents, he grew
up in Guadalupe, CA before entering the United Sates Army in 1940 and marriage
in 1944 to his wife of 64 years, Mary (Labrucherie) Raynaud. In 1945, after
return from foreign duty during World War II, he and his wife resided in Santa
Maria, CA where he was a 35-year long-haul trucker and Teamster with The Smith
Company until his retirement in 1980.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping,
fishing, hunting, cattle roundups, helping out on family farms and ranches and
especially his famous and fun-filled outdoor barbeques. He and his wife also
loved RV traveling throughout much of the United States and Canada. His greatest
passion, however, was he and his wife's families and friends where he was loving
husband, brother, brother-in-law, favorite uncle, and friend who, along with his
wife, never missed a family event no matter how far away or his Army unit's
reunions held across numerous States for over 50 years.
He and his wife
moved from Santa Maria, CA to Ontario, CA in 2002 where they continued to enjoy
their retirement years and activities, along with becoming members and weekly
church attendees of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church of Ontario, CA.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Raynaud of Ontario, CA; sisters Elisa
Vaughn of San Jose, CA and Bernice Gularte of Paso Robles, CA; along with
numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A Rosary will be held
