Obituary:Alfredo M. Reyes Print E-mail
Alfredo M. Reyes "Tinkers," of Oxnard, was called home to our Lord on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at the age of 81, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Tinkers was born May 30, 1927, in Ysleta, Texas, to Gregoria Vargas and Rosalio R. Michel, "Papa Chalio". He was one of three children.

Tinkers was a lifelong resident of Oxnard. He was a graduate of Oxnard High School. In August of 1945, he proudly entered the United States Army. He served in World War II as a sharpshooter in the infantry. Upon his discharge on Sept. 22, 1946, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

"What a Party!" Tinkers enjoyed life to the fullest. His favorite pastimes were having a beer with his buddies while playing pool at the Cozy Inn and the Hide Away in Oxnard. He was always tinkering around trying to fix things, which is how he got his nickname, "Tinkers." He enjoyed spending time with all his family, from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Especially with his sister, Evelyn Moraga, "Chona," whom he ate breakfast with every day. He was always there to lend a hand or give a ride when someone needed it.

Tinkers was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia Vargas and Rosalio R. Michel "Papa Chalio"; brother, Arthur Reyes and his wife, Sophie; brother-in-law, Alex V. Moraga and his wife, Evelyn.

Tinkers is survived by his children, Mary Garcia, Isabel and Miguelina Reyes; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and his sister and best friend, Evelyn R. Moraga, whom he loving called, "Chona."

The family wishes to thank St. John's Regional Medical Center and its caring staff, Dr. Kevin Chang, Dr. Abergel, Dr. Perng and his nurse Rosita of Las Posas Healthcare. And a very special thank you to his loving niece Reina A. Weight for all her care, love and support.

A special dedication to my Uncle.

Our hearts were broken

When you left.

A lonely house an empty bed.

And as we lay you down to rest.

We know that God

Will grant you the best.

The road to heaven is paved in gold.

For your spirit is with him

And so is your soul.

So as you sleep and

Our tears will dry.

We'll look up to heaven and

Wave goodbye.

With Love, Pat
