Maria "Dora" Castanon, age 79, of Oxnard, passed away Sept. 3, 2008. She was
born June 25, 1929, in El Paso, Texas. Dora was a resident of Oxnard for 45
years.
Dora, as many knew, was a homemaker for 48 years. She was surrounded by her
husband, Angel, of 53 years, who never left her side until her last breath. She
was a very strong woman but lost her battle to diabetes complications.
Her hobbies included eating out especially at "La Paloma" restaurant. She
also enjoyed shopping and being surrounded by her family.
She will be dearly missed by everyone, especially her daughter, Brenda, who
took care of her until the end. Special thanks to Nena and Bianca, who also took
care of her with lots of love.
Dora is survived by her husband, Angel Castanon Sr.; children, Mary Esther
(Francisco) Montanez of Port Hueneme, Cecilia (Valentin) Magallanes of Oxnard,
Angel (Rachel) Castanon Jr. of San Bernardino, Robert (Deborah) Castanon of
Oxnard, Brenda (Efren) Cerrato of Oxnard, Magdalena (Roy) Coronado of Oxnard,
Martha Robles of Oxnard, and Carlos (Catalina) Gonzales of Oxnard; 28
grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Garcia Mortuary, c/o
Anna Zaragoza.
Visitation will be held today, Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 10
p.m., with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Garcia Mortuary Chapel. Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Our
Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Oxnard. Interment will follow at Santa
Clara Cemetery.
