Ex-Sacramento social worker accused of stealing $324,000

A former social worker for Sacramento County has been accused of theft following an investigation by a county fraud unit.

According to Sacramento County Deputy District Attorney Laura West, Julie Mee Vue, 40, was extradited from Arkansas to Sacramento this weekend to face 13 counts of stealing more than $324,000 from the In Home Supportive Services program where she worked.

IHSS spokeswoman Laura McCasland said Vue was employed by the agency from March 5, 2006 to May 3, 2008. On May 13, 2008, another IHSS social worker reported suspicions about Vue's activities to the Department of Human Assistance.

A year later, a fraud unit was formed in IHSS and took over the human assistance agency's probe into Vue. The fraud unit investigation led to a criminal complaint lodged against Vue in July,2010, McCasland said.

Vue was booked into Sacramento County Jail on Saturday. She is being held on $325,000 bail.

West said if convicted of all charges, Vue faces a maximum prison sentence of 13 years.
