Baby sitter heads to trial for child rape
ASalinas man is headed to trial on charges of raping a 3-year-old girl in June. Salvador Marin Luna, 23, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday. He will be arraigned Sept. 1.
The girl was hospitalized June 29 with injuries to her groin and genital areas. She was released to her parents six days later. Salinas police arrested Luna, her baby sitter, July 9.
Prosecutor Rolando Mazariegos filed an amended complaint Friday charging Luna with two counts of sexual penetration of a child younger than 10. Both charges carry sentences of 30 years to life in prison upon conviction. Luna, who is being held in Monterey County Jail in lieu of $840,000 bail, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
