Jeannette Gatlin Dommer
December 3, 1938-July 7, 2008
Salinas, CA-Jeannette Gatlin Dommer passed peacefully surrounded
by her family and friends on July 7, 2008. She was born to Wilma and
Edward Kelly on Dec 3, 1938, in Huntington Arkansas. Jeannette moved to
Pacific Grove in 1943 with her 3 older siblings and parents, where she
met her husband of 52 years in 1954 and spent many hours at the
Monterey roller skating rink with him and her friends. She graduated
from PG High in 1956 and married her husband and best friend on June 15
of the same year. Don a Jeannette lived on the Monterey Peninsula all
their married lives and raised four children, 12 grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren. Jeanette was a homemaker, excelling in a multitude
of crafts that she shared with her children and grandchildren. She
loved garage sales, flea markets, BBQ's and any chance to visit with
her friends and family. She was active in her husband's role as a
fisherman and hunter, spending many hours wrapping meat and fish that
he brought home. Jeannette was supportive of her children and
grandchildren in all things, offering love and advice whenever it was
needed. She was especially proud of her three grandsons who joined the
United States Air Force and Army over the past year. She hung a banner
with three stars in her window for the day that they would each return.
Jeannette liked everyone she met and was counted as a friend
& confidant by many people. She never had a bad word to say about
anyone and opened her home to all who visited. She handled her illness
with the most incredible dignity, humor and gracefulness, not once
complaining. She looked for the positive things in her life and in the
people she encountered. Jeannette will be missed enormously by her
family and friends.
Jeannette is survived by her husband, Donald C. Dommer (Okie),
her sons: Daniel Dommer, Robert Dommer (Nicole), and Scott Dommer
(Elizabeth) and her daughter Cindy Walter (Ted). She was the proud
grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is also
survived by her brother Bob Kelly (Genevieve), her sisters Norma
McBride, Sue Reed, and Lusanne Bough (Larry). She was loved by a
multitude of nieces, nephews and their children and she also leaves
behind her treasured cat, Tiffany. She was preceded in death by her
parents Wilma and Edward Kelly.
The family wishes to thank Matt Walbeck from Hospice of the
Central Coast for his tender care during the 7 months of her illness.
We also wish to thank all the other individuals at this incredible
organization who helped to make her last months comfortable and allowed
her to live at home until the day she passed. Our thanks also to
Stephan Sprenkle who brought her lunch and visited each Sunday, and all
her friends and family who visited frequently. Her days were brightened
by each and everyone of you. The family suggests that in lieu of
flowers, donations should be made to Hospice of the Central Coast.
