Obituary : Helen Mason Print E-mail
Helen Mason Oct. 26, 1920 - Oct. 28, 2009 Resident of San Carlos Helen Mason passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in the early morning of Oct. 28, 2009. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and enjoyed a lifetime of community service. Helen commemorated her 89th birthday with her sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren present. Born in Rochester, NY October 26, 1920, she attended Antioch College. Helen married Meriwether Mason, Jr. in 1943 in Schenectady, NY. She worked for the War Price and Ration Board in Coronado, CA during WW II. After moving to California, she served on the boards of the American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters, and PTA (San Mateo schools). Helen chaired a committee that wrote a Philosophy of Education for the San Mateo Elementary School District. She was an avid bridge player, ACBL Life Master and director of bridge games. Also she was an avid watercolorist who won many awards. Helen served on the Executive Board of the Hearing Loss Association of America. She was preceded in death by husband Meriwether A. Mason, Jr. and Brother John C. Price. Helen is survived by sons Meriwether A. Mason, III of Foster City and Tyler Moor Mason of Albuquerque; Daughter-in-law Linda F. Mason; Grandchildren Michelle Mason Leary, Kelly Mason Kley, Ashley Gloria Mason; Great-grandchildren Aidan Viviano Leary and Noah Mason Leary and Sons-in Law Seth Leary and Brandon Kley. At Helen's request, there will be no services locally. She will be buried in the Mason family plot in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's honor may be made to Pathways Hospice Foundation, 585 N. Mary Ave., Sunnyvale, CA, 94085. Obituary : Michael Anton Tyson Print E-mail
Michael Anton Tyson, January 10, 1947 - July 24, 2009 Resident of San Carlos Passed away at the age of 62. Loving son of the late Albert and Ann Tyson; devoted brother of Doris Morey and the late Barbara Wilson; brother-in-law of Bill Morey; dear nephew of Doris Bussey, Bill and Anne Loskotoff, Sue, Vicki (deceased), Julie, Laurie, and Kelley; and proud uncle of nephews Chris and Billy. Michael attended schools in San Carlos; a highlight in his athletic career was being a member of the "Babe Ruth World Series" Champs in 1961. Michael was a small business government contractor for the Department of Defense and Lockheed-Martin. Mike was an avid fisherman and great fan of the New York Yankees. Mike's sense of humor and perseverance to overcome physical challenges will always be remembered. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2009 at 11am at the Chapel of Olivet Memorial Park. Inurnment will follow at Olivet Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
 
Obituary : Michael F. Jessen Print E-mail
Michael F. Jessen A 64 year resident of San Carlos Passed away on 6/29/2009 with his niece and sister by his side. He was born in Berkley, CA in 1937. Moving to San Carlos in 1945 with his family, he fell in love with the area and never left. He graduated from Menlo Business School and worked many years as an expediter in the construction field. Michael's favorite pastime was to participate in San Carlos youth sports programs from coaching Bobby Sox to being on the board of the Babe Ruth Baseball program. Michael is survived by his brother Christopher Jessen (Georgianne); sister Patricia Blunt; nieces and nephews Lisa and James Blunt (Laura), Jennifer, Jay and Dane Jessen, great nieces and nephews McKenzie, Taylor, Jessen and Ryan; and long time companion Irene Rodenhuis. Internment was July 3, 2009 at Skylawn Cemetery.
