Ernest Vandever
Resident of San Carlos Ernest Vandever, 81, of San Carlos, died Wednesday October 8 in the home that he built after battling lung and spine cancer. Ernie was born in Emeryville, CA on December 13, 1926 to William Glenn Vandever and Stacy O'Laughlin Vandever. Ernie served in WWII in the Merchant Marine and the US Navy. After the war he worked as a mechanic and then became a San Carlos Firefighter. He also started his own business Aladdin Automatic Door Co. After retiring from the fire dept. in 1982, Ernie worked as a property manager and later vice president for Dolphin Group Investments. Ernie loved to travel and had an adventurous spirit; he bungee jumped at age 67. In his later years, Ernie became an avid golfer and was a member of SIR, but his greatest joy was found in his family and especially his grandsons. He spent several months each year in Marietta, GA to be near them. Ernie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Tuohey Vandever; daughter Christina Vandever of Cupertino, CA, daughter Valerie King and husband Jeff of Marietta, GA; and two grandchildren Travis Connor and Ryan Alexander King.
