John Wesley Anding of the Ted community, Smith County died Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Forest General Hospital, Hattiesburg, MS. He was 88 years old. He was a man of selflessness, integrity, and courage with an inner quiet strength and love of family.
Born in Sylvarena, MS on November 13, 1920, he graduated from Sylvarena High School and married Elsie Burnett. Together they attended and graduated Southern Business College.
Prior to joining the Army Air Force, Mr. Anding was a clerk for the US Engineers in Meridian. During World War II he was stationed in England flying missions in B-17s over occupied Europe, Berlin, and Normandy.
After WWII he moved his family to Gilchrist, OR and worked as an accountant with Gilchrist Timber Company for 40 years. There he served as Treasurer for Gilchrist Methodist Church and enjoyed his love of the outdoors and wood carving.
He and wife, Elsie have lived in the Ted community since retirement as gentlemen tree farmers. He was a member of Ted Baptist Church serving as a deacon. He was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Masons. His greatest love was his family.
He was preceded in death by parents, William Eustis Anding and Leona Collum Anding and sister, Gracie Elana Bryant.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Elsie Burnett Anding; his children, Jane Young and husband, Michael R. Young, Danville, CA, Johnnie Tracy and husband, J. Mark Tracy, Holly Springs, NC, and James William Anding, Gilchrist, OR; grandchildren, Jeffrey S. Williams-Tracy, Charlotte, NC, Justin Brain Tracy, Alpharetta, GA, Kevin Michael Young, San Carlos, CA, Kristi Young Johnson, Reno, NV, and Wesley Jacob Anding and Chelsie Lynn Anding, Gilchrist, OR; great grandchildren, Heywood Williams-Tracy, Hamlin Williams-Tracy, Holden Rutherford Tracy, Eleanor Rutherford Tracy, and Kianna Jane Young; and stepbrother, Douglas Anding, Bay Springs.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 am at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 22 E. 4th Ave, Bay Springs, MS Friday, February 27, 2009, with funeral services in the chapel at 11 am. Interment will follow at Ted Baptist Church cemetery.
