Copenhagen Bakery on Burlingame Avenue and Woodside Bakery in downtown Woodside are both very good.

For something a bit different, I recommend Dessert Republic in downtown San Mateo, in the cute little alley next to the parking garage on 2nd & B. It's a Hong Kong style dessert / late night bistro, open til 11pm nightly, 1am on weekends, so it's a great option after catching a movie or if you want a late-night snack like a rice plate or noodles. On the dessert side they serve HK-style crepes and fondue, as well as more traditional Chinese desserts like various & stewed fresh fruits, tapioca drinks, jellies, sweet tofu, and "healthy" items like aloe, fungus, lotus seeds, lily bulbs, and the like. Give it a try if you're looking for something more adventurous! These types of places are very popular in China.

Moonside Bakery in Half Moon Bay and Dianda's Bakery in San Mateo at the Crystal Springs Shopping Center are my favorites. Moonside has great coffee; I don't remember what coffee Dianda's has.

Of course, the best place for primarily coffee is Bean Street Coffeehouse in San Mateo on B st. downtown.

Try Copenhagen Bakery on Burlingame Avenue in Burlingame. Great selection of authentic Danish pastries and lots of other goodies. They have a cafe where you can sit and enjoy it all.
