Obituary: Gary Alan Gavello PDF Print E-mail

Gary Alan Gavello 63, 1945 - 2008 Gary Gavello, attorney and real estate investor, died suddenly from a massive heart attack on August 21st. Gary will be best remembered as the loving husband of his wife Kristina; and loving father of their three children, Aubrey (11), Garrett (8), and Bryant (6). Born in San Francisco and a long time resident of Atherton, Gary graduated from Junipero Serra High School, Santa Clara University, and Santa Clara University Law. After graduation Gary served in the US Army in Korea, reaching the rank of captain after receiving the Army Commendation Medal for Exemplary Service. He began practicing law with the firm of Hassard Bonnington, LLP in 1973, practicing primarily in real estate law. Mr. Gavello's clients included brokers, building owners and trade associations concerned with real estate ownership, sale, or leasing. Mr. Gavello was active in American Bar Association and State Bar of California entities involved with real property, and had served as the co-chairman, Real Estate Sale and Broker Subsection, Real Property Law Section, State Bar of California, 1989-1992. He later became "Of Counsel" when his real estate investment and development responsibilities required his full attention. Mr. Gavello traveled extensively and made many dear friends around the world. Often his travels involved his love of the sports of wind surfing, or skiing. He had a very relaxed, engaging, and entertaining manner and a quick wit that was always on the ball. His friends will always remember his warm smile and the twinkle in his eye as he mischievously kidded and poked fun. Gary lived with a passion for details. He was passionate about his work, his friends, and his family. As a devoted husband and father, he spent much of his time with his children. He cherished that time and never let an hour go by without telling his family how much he loved them. Gary gave generously to charities and participated in the charitable works of the Guardsmen. He was a member of the Olympic Club, Bohemian Club and the Circus Club. A third Generation San Franciscan and son of Elmer and Betty Gavello (Elmer Gavello and Betty Bollenbach). Gary is also survived by his sister Gail Gavello, of Atherton. A private memorial was held at the Gavello home in Atherton last week. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Duncan Kattman Fund, in Gary's name at Box 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912.
