Gladys Marie (Margaret) Kennedy (nee Oakley) 1916 - 2008 Gladys Kennedy, a fourth generation Californian, passed away peacefully at her summer home in Lake Tahoe, Aug. 26, 2008, with her loving family by her side. Born in San Francisco November 19, 1916 to Ruth Christina Reinhart and Winifeld Oakley, she was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Daly City and received her R.N. from French Hospital in San Francisco. As a young girl she danced on the Vaudeville stage and always looked back on that time with joy. In her adult life she loved being a homemaker, enjoyed entertaining, was a gracious hostess and will be fondly remembered for her many sumptuous holiday meals. A life long card player, she excelled at bridge, pinochle and blackjack and she played monthly with her ladies bridge club for 45 years. Together with her husband, James Kennedy, she was a member of the Olympic Club Lakeside, S.F. where she enjoyed many active years of golf. She married her high school sweetheart James Howard Kennedy in 1939 and together they first lived in Yosemite Valley where Jim worked as a bookkeeper in the lumber camp. In 1942 they moved to San Mateo County where Jim began his bar and restaurant business. They lived in San Bruno, Daly City, South City and finally Hillsborough for 47 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; and is survived by her four children: Maureen Moyer of San Bruno (Don), James Kennedy Jr. of Daly City (Anna), Rae Mayer of Wauwatosa, WI, (Mike), Nancy Kennedy of Dobbs Ferry, NY, (Ron Vincent). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Ann-Margaret Poimboeuf (Michael), Kenneth Moyer (Lucy), Jennifer Codarre (William), Patrick and Michael Moyer, James Kennedy III (Sue), Karen Almos (Jesse), April Dominguez (Dennis), Heather Avery (Andrew), Jacquelyn Kelly, Henry Mayer (Julie), Victoria Mayer, Jamie Mayer, Raymond Vincent; and 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Art Martinez, her devoted and loving caregiver of eight years, gardener extraordinaire and forever a family friend. And finally she leaves behind her loyal companion, Max the cat. Visitation will start at 4:00 PM and will end with the recitation of the Rosary starting at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, Sept. 9th, 2008 at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mount Rose Highway, Incline Village, NV. Funeral Mass 11:00 AM Wed., Sept. 10 also at St. Francis, followed by Burial at Trail's End Cemetery in Tahoe City, CA. Bay Area Memorial Service to be held at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church, 600 Columbia Drive, San Mateo, CA, Monday, Sept. 15th at 11:00 AM.
