John Thomas Kalkanian Jr. Oct. 29, 1928 - June 21, 2009 Resident of San Mateo John passed away on Sunday, June 21st, from complications stemming from illnesses that he had been bravely enduring for several years. He was 80 years old. John was a native of Detroit, MI, where he was born to parents Nevart and John Kalkanian. He resided there until moving to the suburb of Birmingham just outside of Detroit in the late 1960's. He was a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, where he met Jane, his wife of 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. After raising his family, John and Jane moved to the San Francisco bay area where he worked in Property Management until his retirement 8 years ago. He will always be remembered by his family and the many, many friends that loved to spend time with him as a warm, loving, outgoing person who cared deeply about them. He was a master story-teller, and spent many hours entertaining and making people laugh. All that knew him knew that he would do anything for his family, as they were the center of his world. He was a man of incredible character who lived passionately and left an impression on all those that he came into contact with. He loved life. John is survived by his wife Jane and two children, Jacqueline Kalkanian- Miller (Lance) of Maple Valley, Washington, and John Kalkanian III, (Samantha) of Aliso Viejo, California, and 5 grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Alexandra Miller, Erin Miller, Nickolas Kalkanian, Noah Kalkanian, and Natalie Kalkanian. He is also survived by sisters Esther and Martha, and his three loving nephews and one niece, as well as many cousins. There will be a family gathering held at the home of his son John in southern California and a luncheon in San Mateo celebrating his life at a future date to be determined.
