Joseph A. Maldari Died peacefully in Burlingame, CA, September 4, 2008,
three days before his 92nd birthday. Joe was predeceased by Betty
Maldari, his wife of 60 years, and his sisters Laura Rellis and Mary
Quick. He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Weser of Pleasanton, CA;
his son, Philip Maldari of Oakland, CA; his grandson Brian Weser,
Brian's wife, Heather Weser, and two great-grandsons all of Savannah,
GA; his sisters, Dora Sieg of Redgranite, WI, and Isabella Marks of
Fremont, WI, and his sister-in-law, Helen Lee Bannerman of Burlingame.
His parents immigrated from Puglia, Italy to raise a family in
Redgranite, WI, where Joe was born September 7, 1916. He graduated from
Redgranite High School and, four years later, from the University of
Wisconsin, where he received a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He
belonged to Chi Epsilon, the National Civil Engineering Honor Society.
He was called to active duty from the Army Reserve in the summer of
1941 and married Betty Bannerman of Manitowoc, WI, in May of 1942.
After the war he continued to serve in the Army Reserve with the rank
of Lt. Colonel. The family settled in Appleton, WI, where he was chief
engineer for Western Condensing Co., a subsidiary of Foremost, Inc. In
1961 they moved to Burlingame, where he continued his career with
Foremost, later McKesson Corporation. He retired in 1981 as director of
corporate engineering. Joe and Betty spent many happy retirement years
traveling, working in their garden and playing bridge. The family
expresses gratitude for the loving care provided by his caregivers:
Gloria, Elsie, Nida, Jelsa and Lolita. Joe will be greatly missed. No
services are planned.
