Margaret Ann Beer (Margey) Estell Formerly of San Mateo, died September 10 under hospice care at Silverado Center of Belmont, CA, after a long battle with Pick's Disease. She was born July 6th, 1951 to Charles and Elma Beer of Larned, KS. The family moved to Las Cruces, NM, in 1957. In Las Cruces, Margey graduated from Mayfield High School and New Mexico State University, with a B.S. in education. She loved music, education, art and mathematics. She was an accomplished clarinetist and vocalist, and earned a music scholarship to NMSU. She married David Estell in 1970, and they attended graduate school at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN. There she studied computer programming, and was hired as a programmer analyst for the University in the early 1970s, where she wrote an early relational data base program that is still used by several universities. In 1978, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, and worked as a senior programmer / analyst for Four Phase Systems (now Motorola) and Lockheed. The couple's two children, Amanda and William, were born at Stanford Hospital. After William was born, Margey devoted her time to the children and the Belmont School District. She volunteered at Nesbitt Elementary and Ralston Middle School, and was president of the Nesbitt PTA from 1992-1994. In 1995 she was elected to the Belmont School District Board of Trustees, and she served until 1999. During this time, she was also an active member of Hillsdale United Methodist Church, serving as officer in several organizations, and as a member of the choir. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 4:00 PM, at Hillsdale United Methodist Church, 303 36th Ave, San Mateo, CA 94403.
