William S. Shaffer Passed away in San Mateo on September 8, 2008 after
a short illness. Beloved husband of the late Elva Shaffer; loving
father of John (Carmen) and David (Denise); loving grandfather of
Suzanne Crenshaw (John), William (fiancée, Jen), Michael, David Jr.,
Jason, Jacob and Zachary; dear great-grandfather of Thomas and Katelyn
Crenshaw and Anna Rose Shaffer; dear brother of Andrew, Bobby and Jody
Nutt; dear brother-in-law of Cecil Beazley of New Zealand; dear friend
to Alto and Katie Sherman and Norma and the late Chick Carli. Also
survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his
parents William L. Shaffer and Mary E. Jackson; brother Robert and
sisters Betty Dunn, Louise Barch and Kathryn Dixon. Bill was born in
Clarion, PA, on August 20, 1922. Bill proudly served his country in the
Army in World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and served in
the South Pacific. Bill was a mechanic for Vanetta Motors and a
stationary engineer at the Hyatt Regency at the Embarcadero. In
retirement Bill began building dockyard class model ships. He achieved
the title of Master Craftsman Shipbuilder. A long time resident of San
Mateo, CA. The family wishes to thank his caregiver Elizabeth and
Sutter VNA & Hospice. Family and friends are invited to the Funeral
Service on Sept. 13, 2008, 11am at SNEIDER & SULLIVAN &
O'CONNELL'S FUNERAL HOME, 977 So. El Camino Real in San Mateo. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA-San Mateo or a charity of
your choice.
