The smile on Daniel Porter’s face couldn’t mask the pain the College of San Mateo football team felt in the aftermath of a 30-27 non-conference overtime loss to visiting Sierra on Saturday.

Armed with a golden opportunity to knock off the No. 2-ranked team in the state and the top-rated squad in Northern California, the No. 6 Bulldogs (4-1) matched the Wolverines (5-0) play for play, hit for hit, tackle for tackle. In fact, one could make the case for CSM outplaying Sierra, outgaining the visitors 405-238.

And it still wasn’t enough.
