Argos Suffer Tough Loss in Five Sets, Villamayor Sets NDNU Record PDF Print E-mail

Christina Villamayor’s record breaking night nearly led the Notre Dame de Namur volleyball team to an upset over Sonoma State.  The Argos hung tough all night before eventually falling in five sets to the 9-1 Seawolves.

Villamayor was the story of the match as she racked up 30 kills to set a single game record for NDNU.  The 30 kills were the most by any Argonaut since the school started keeping single game stats in 2002.

The Argos came out strong, taking the first set 28-26 as Villamayor registered eight kills.  She was even better in the second with nine, but the Seawolves were able to prevail with a 25-23 win.

Sonoma State overcame an early 5-0 lead to take the third set 25-21 before Villamayor led NDNU to a 25-19 victory the fourth set with eight more kills.  With the match tied 2-2, the Seawolves came out fast in the fifth and never trailed on their way to a 15-7 win.

Villamayor committed just three errors on the game and finished with a .378 hitting percentage and 23 digs.  Pamela Alano recorded a game high 57 assists and four aces while Shauna Folan and Lauren Quach finished with 38 and 31 digs repectively.  In addition to her 31 digs, Quach registered 14 kills with Caitlin Torres adding 14 of her own to lead NDNU to a 69-54 kills.
