The first batter was just a taste of things to come. The Serra High baseball team got an opposite-field home run from leadoff hitter Tony Renda, then proceeded to demolish visiting Milpitas 18-1 in an opening-round Central Coast Section Division I playoff game shortened for mercy Wednesday after five innings. The second-seeded Padres batted around twice in the first four innings, once with the starters and once with the reserves. Four Milpitas pitchers were hapless, as Serra hit a curveball-heavy array of pitches and whatever else the Trojans served up, while at the same time taking 10 walks and benefiting from seven Milpitas errors.
