After an outstanding freshman season that saw him named the conference’s top goalie, sophomore keeper Shelden Steenhuis added to his accolades when he was chosen as the Pacific West Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year. Steenhuis (Morgan Hill, CA/Live Oak) was terrific in his 12 games for NDNU last year. He wound up with the second-highest save percentage in the PacWest (.760), a stellar 1.41 goals against average to also rank second and finished second in the conference in shutouts with three. In addition to Steenhuis, senior defenders David Wulff and Sean Vogt were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team after earning All-PacWest honors last year. Wolfe (San Jose, CA/Wilcox) was a First Team All-Conference performer in 2007 after he helped anchor an Argonaut defense that finished second in the conference in goals against average (1.36), goals allowed (28) and shutouts (6). Vogt (Fresno, CA/Clovis West) made 17 starts on defense and also chipped in three goals while garnering Honorable Mention All-PacWest accolades. The Argos open their season Friday afternoon with a game against San Jose State at 3:00 pm.
