Obituary : Conway, Bettylu Perryman Print E-mail
Conway, Bettylu Perryman, a long time Santa Ana resident, was born on November 11, 1921 in a tiny house at the old railroad junction on the Snake River called Glen's Ferry, Idaho. She passed away August 11, 2008. Her father was with the Oregon Shortline Railroad who gave up railroading to come to California with Bettylu, her younger brother, Bob, and mother, Bessie in 1929. The family came to Santa Ana in 1930 when her father joined the Santa Ana Register's display advertising department. She attended Spurgeon School, Lathrop Junior High and graduated from Santa Ana High School with honors in the last pre-war class of 1940. After attending Santa Ana College, her first position was with the popular Reverend McFarland's Presbyterian Church at Sycamore and Church Street. When the war broke out, like many other young Orange County ladies, she went to work at the giant Santa Ana Army Air Base near Baker Street and Newport Boulevard in Costa Mesa. There the slender brunette met her husband to be Sgt. Jack Conway, a soldier from Seattle. Upon his return from the army of occupation in Japan, they married and purchased a picturesque home on Martha Lane near Santa ana College. Their daughter, Benita, was born in 1951. Bettylu began her long career at First American Title Insurance Company in 1949. She loved the family atmosphere of the fast growing firm who recognized her skills and reliability. She served as executive secretary for three consecutive division presidents. After 30 years with First American she was honored at her retirement with magnificent "Grandfather" clock. Upon her retirement she and her husband and her widowed mother moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. There, she worked again for the First American office in that city. Bettylu is survived by her husband, Jack of Twins Falls; her daughter, Benita of Hollywood, CA and her brother, C. Robert retired advertising agency executive of Irvine, CA. Bettlu and Jack enjoyed their quiet retirement life and the small town atmosphere of Twin Falls, where she will be laid to rest.
