Day, Freeman, Jr., age 78, died July 26, 2008, at his home in
Yorba Linda, CA, following a courageous battle with cancer. Freeman was
born on May 22, 1930, in Evanston, Illinois. He attended Hackley Prep
School and graduated from Colgate University in 1952. Following
graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in
Heidelberg, Germany. In 1959, he married Elisabeth Shirley, and the
couple moved to California to reside. Freeman was the co-owner of
Olympia Glass and Metal, Inc. where he served as the company president
for 22 years until he retired in 1992. In retirement, he enjoyed
playing golf, spending time with his friends, and was an avid sports
enthusiast. One of life's true gentlemen, he will be sadly missed by
all whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Betty, and brother, Richard Day. He is survived by his sister, Mary Lou
Becker, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and his three daughters, Lisa Smith of
Long Beach, CA, Kim Bastick of Capetown, South Africa, and Shirley Lee
of Tustin, CA, and his six grandchildren. Memorial services for Freeman
Day, Jr. will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 14, at Trinity
United Presbyterian Church, 13922 Prospect Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92705,
followed by a reception at the Yorba Linda Country Club. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the
American Cancer Society or the Colgate University Athletic Dept. Fairhaven Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
