He attended Gonzaga Prep and Seattle University before transferring to the University of Washington to study pre-med. After fainting during two observed surgeries, he decided to change his major to Economics. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Joe was a pilot in the Air Force during the Korean War. His eyesight wasn't good enough to qualify for pilot training, so he ate carrots for several days before the eye test and surprisingly passed. He began a career with NCR after leaving the AF. Many moves later he and Joan and their four children, Heidi, Mike, Jim and Colleen settled in Santa Barbara, Calif. For the last 24 years he lived in Palm Desert working as a Realtor, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margo; and his parents.
