Obituary : Chad Andrew Briner Print E-mail

Chad Andrew Briner , 21, a resident of Santa Barbara passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2008 after a brief illness. Chad was born on April 15, 1987 and had been a lifelong Ventura resident before moving on to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Chad worked diligently at his academics and was scheduled to graduate early in December of this year. As a dedicated athlete who obtained more than his share of injuries, Chad was interested in learning about the mind, spirit, and body as his primary field of study. He previously worked as a "webmaster" on an intramural sport website at UCSB. just prior to his death, he had begun classes for certification as an emergency medical technician.

He was a sports enthusiast, which started at a very young age. As a 3-year-old, he was obsessed with watching Sports Center on ESPN. As a youth he played baseball, basketball, and Packers Football. He loved Coach John, the coach who led them to the Super Bowl. Chad concentrated on baseball and football at Buena High School. The late Coach Rick Scott played a significant role in his athletic growth and development. Buena High School friends, coaches and faculty were all considered his friends for life.

Chad was thrilled when he received a partial baseball scholarship at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. His dream ended when he sustained a career ending shoulder injury. Instead of dwelling on the injury, he worked hard to get his body back in shape and move on with his many goals and aspirations in life. He was thrilled to have been accepted to UCSB, a college he admired and respected.

Chad was sensitive , caring, and devoted to his many friends and family. He was unique in many ways including his sense of humor which lead to the saying "That is so Chad!" Chad "adored" his mother and genuinely expressed his love to immediate and extended family members, always greeting everyone with a smile and a hug. Chad had a tight circle of great friends and continued to expand that circle.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, at Charles Carroll Funeral Home , 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura 93003.
