Joan E. Nuhfer          
Born and raised in San Francisco, Ca., Joan passed away at home in Santa Clara, Ca. while she was asleep. She was persistent, and endured tenaciously over many difficulties without bitterness. Adopted as a baby by Gordon & Gertrude Johnston of S.F., Ca. and given the name of Joan Elizabeth Johnston, Joan later found her biological Mother's name (Wilma Wallace) and the name she was given at birth (Roberta Joyce Wallace). After three difficult marriages, Joan was the mother of a daughter, Elizabeth-Ann (Dec. 1, 1961) Slater and a son, Carl Allen (Sept. 14, 1967) Buckles. Note: Carl changed his name to Karl Allen Buckles. Joan then married Leo E. Nuhfer Aug. 20, 1977, and had no children with him. There are grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan was a bank teller, studied nursing, and graduated from San Jose State University with a B.S in Accounting in 1996, after having open-heart surgery. She worked for Accountemps as well as for the state of Calif. Dept. of Health as an auditor for a yr. and Concentric ISP for a yr. She endured many health problem's for the past 30 yrs; Crohn's disease (3 surgeries), Heart disease (2 surgeries), Diabetes brought on by treatment for Crohn's disease, Skin cancer surgery and a TIA. Joan was intelligent and could talk about a wide range of subjects. She was kind, giving, funny, sincere, warm, dignified & amazingly resilient. She tutored English to adults through the READ SANTA CLARA program. She loved mystery books, movies, lighthouses and music. She had empathy for lost and abandoned animals. Joan was quiet. She was a unique, beautiful person and will be missed!!
