Our beloved mother, Helen Lucuskas Beggane, passed from this life to eternal
life on July 16, 2008, in Valencia, California. Helen was born on September 9,
1915, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Joseph and Alana (nee Tomashunaite)
Lucuskas. Helen met her life long partner, Thomas P. Beggane, in Baltimore,
Maryland, and married him there on December 10, 1949. They moved to Las Cruces,
New Mexico, in June 1954, where they raised their family. Las Cruces was their
home for the next 49 years. Due to failing health, they moved to California in
2003, to live with their daughter, Kathleen.
Helen was the heart and
hearth of the Beggane family. She was the glue that bonded the family together.
To her dying day, she was concerned for the health and well being of her family
and friends. She had a deep and abiding faith in the Blessed Trinity and had a
special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She prayed the Rosary on a daily
basis for the needs of others. She was a living witness of God's precious gift
of love and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
After
ensuring that she had fulfilled her duty as a mother to her children, Helen
began a career as a civil servant working for the State of New Mexico in the
Department of Welfare from which she retired in 1980. Helen had many interests
in life including sewing and baking. Helen was a member of Blessed Kateri
Tekakwitha Parish in Santa Clarita, CA. She was also an active member of Take
Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Saugus Chapter.
Helen is survived by five
children, Helen Marie Beggane and her husband, Tom Greco of Duncanville, TX;
Tom, Jr. of Valencia, CA; Kathleen Beggane of Canyon Country, CA; Patricia Fly
and her husband, Jerry of Valencia, CA; and Teresa Pratt-Barlow and her husband,
Mark of Bellevue, WA; one sister, Antonia Adelman of Philadelphia, PA; one
sister-in-law, Eleanor Frain of Drexel Hill, PA six grandchildren, Cheryl and
Shannon Thiele, Katherine Greco, Shawna and Matthew Fly, and Laura Pratt-Barlow
as well as one niece, Joan Hagy and one nephew, David Adelman. Her parents and
husband, Tom, preceded her in death.
Cremation has taken place. A
Memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Kateri Parish at a later date. Helen
cremains will then be inurned with her beloved parents in the family plot in
Philadelphia, PA. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Helen's memory can make
it to Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha's Parish Building Fund. "Eternal Rest grant unto
her, O Lord, and, let perpetual light shine upon her." May her soul and the
souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
